Flamingo-osis in America
The pink flamingo is popular plastic lawn ornament that never goes out of style. Since the late 1950’s you can travel almost anywhere and see these bright pink long-necked birds decorating homes and businesses.
Why is the flamingo one of the most popular lawn ornaments?
Some folks believe that since the wading bird can stand on one leg it will bring “balance” to their lives.
It is used to identify a property ( just look for the porch with the bright pink flamingo)
It can be a landmark for directions (make a right at the house with the pink flamingo)
It’s bright, playful, and easy to decorate for holidays so it can stay out all year
Its tropical theme sends off good vibes of warmth, fun, and happiness
They are used for fundraisers, you can send a flock to the neighbor’s yard
Affordable Decor
It’s a Florida souvenir you can share with everyone
It’s a conversation piece in your front yard, letting neighbors know you are sociable
They are not one size fits all
These birds were first sold by Sears Roebuck in a 1958 catalog. Having a reputation at times for being “tacky”, no one can ever say they are not part of the iconic American landscape. Hundred of thousands are sold every year
#flamingo-osis , you are welcome to share your beautiful flamingo photo

Brighten things up on moving day
Since the phasing out of less efficient light bulbs in 2012 more than just the bulbs have changed.
Lightbulbs are removable but sellers in the past looked at them like a “giveaway”. Today, it is not unusual for sellers to take the bulbs because of the cost and years of use remaining on them.
To save extra work and time during the busy move a buyer can make a list of bulbs and lumens they use during an inspection period. Or, to avoid complication be specific when negotiating with a seller the items that remain with the home.
You may also need a cheat sheet when shopping for bulbs if you are used to measuring the brightness by wattage.
Here is a link to help with wattage to lumens: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0164-shopping-light-bulbs
As for the high upfront cost, it should even out with the energy saved.
Happy home buying 🙂

Hurricane Matthew barreled through the Carribean and up the Florida, Georgia and South Carolina coast. I followed the evacuation order and moved inland approximately 45 miles. Feeling comfortable with my decision I was totally taken off […]
